  JW Marriages - Loophole in wedding vows

  not being raised as a jw, i went to many church weddings, mostly in catholic churches.

  all the times i went to jw weddings i thought it unusual that they had their own vows, much different from the wedding vows used elsewhere.

  i remembered jws mentioning "divine temination" of marriages to me and thought the vows reflected that thought.

  i once attended a JW wedding in my home congregation ( my dad wasnt there ). The authorised person wanted to see the -licence-? banns or whatever--?--but the couple had forgotten to do all that pre-nuptial formality. So the actual " tying the knot" couldnt proceed. But they went ahead with the rest of the speech--and we all attended the wedding reception--but the bride and groom each returned to their respective parents homes afterwards. The got a special licence and finalised their marriage a few days later.

  I dont know if they stayed together.

  Back in the day--my old dad was an Authorised Person-- to officiate at ( JW ) weddings. ( In the UK ).

  Over the years he attended numerous weddings in the West Midlands--and he was a stickler for the official vow words had to be used.

  He told me that At one wedding--the person conducting the ceremony decided to use his own words--and my dad stopped him and insisted he use the exact words in the script. I dont think he was too popular after that.

  He told me the reason he was strict about it was in case of any future marriage bust up--the use of unauthorised vow words could result in the marriage being declared nul and void.

  How Do You Know You Are In The Wrong Religion?

  i believe this list which many of us worked on needs to see the light of day again...and added to if possible.. you know you are in the wrong religion:1. when the all important question is not: "do you believe in the lord jesus christ?"....but....

  "do you believe in the "faithful and discreet slave" appointed in brooklyn in 1919?"2.

  when you will be refused baptism if: a. you don't believe jerusalem was destroyed in 607 bc (whereas all non-jw scholars, all encyclopedias and all history books say this event took place in 587 bc.)b.

  May I ask the obvious counter question?
  How do you know when you are in the right religion?

  When youre totally comfortable with it.

  It doesnt matter which religion you choose--or are born into: they all worship the same god, a man made idea.

  any opinions are just speculation, but my guess, being morbid, is that there was not a hull breach and implosion (although that would have been the most merciful fate for them), but instead the amateur level of building this thing meant that it lost power and communication and got itself tangled in the titanic's wreckage or is sitting on the actual seabed with no way to release ballast to resurface.

  terrifying.

  i think amateur "sportsmen/women"--here in the UK--should also pay a levy to pay for NHS treatment when they get injured in their sport..also to compensate their employers while they are off sick.

  rich folk doing a trip to see titanic . Not so rich climbing high mountains.

  ---or jumping out of aircraft

  ---or playing violent contact sports ( rugby, football etc ).

  All just pointless selfish injurious games.

  elder friend of mine texted me asking what my rc attendance was 2 weeks ago (family and i streamed it since wife is not well).

  he told me that his rc in the jersey city assembly hall last weekend was low.

  co told them that around 2600 were the total from 16+ congs that were assigned.

  I remember, decades ago, sitting in the stadium of Crystal Palace football ground for the entire circuit assembly frozen cold and soaking wet from drizzle/rain!

  i had a similar miserable few days at the old Wembley stadium in about the early 70's. Cold and wet; solid seats--crowds of wet miserable people. I vowed never to attend another big assembly--and i kept my promise.

  so the end was going to come by 2000 as documented in the magazines back in the late 80's early 90's.. so how did they get the time off so badly ( over two decades and still nothing) since the gb is jehovah's earthly mouthpiece right ?

  behold now is the accepted time.

  behold now is the day of salvation.

  if you had to do anything before coming to christ to be saved, then now is not the accepted time.. salvation is faith in christ and in christ alone.. jws must first have to prove themselves before they are approved.
